Overview
Retinoblastoma is a rare type of eye cancer that can affect young children. It affects the retina, which is at the back of the eye.
Symptoms
White glow in eye (flash photo); squint; change in iris colour; red/swollen eye. Young children.
Causes
Eye cancer (RB1 gene mutation). Often genetic/inherited.
Treatment
Laser therapy; Cryotherapy; Chemotherapy; Surgery (remove eye). Specialist centre.
Prevention
Genetic screening for at-risk families.
When to see a doctor
See GP immediately if: white glow in child's eye.
